Presentation topic:

How the recycled PET content in PET packaging & textiles can be detected

Abstract

Abstract

More and more countries embrace Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations. Therefore, packaging-, textile manufacturers and brand owners are keen to show and gradually increase the recycled PET (rPET) content in their PET products. However, the nature of rPET and virgin PET is much alike!

GETEC laboratory has extended experience in the chemical analyses PET polymers and -products for over 65 years. This presentation will show a new analysis approach to indicate the presence of rPET in PET products.

Mr. Emiel Klootsema is a member of the management team of the laboratory of GETEC PARK.EMMEN. For almost 30 years he has been working in the laboratory which is specialized in PET and PA6 polymer analyses. He has extensive experience with various analysis techniques for polymer production control and polymer product development. More than 20 years ago he was one of the founders of the so-called Partisol analysis. The Partisol analysis, originally developed for highly critical PET spinning processes, is nowadays also widely used to provide insight into particles present in (R)PET recycle streams (granules, prefoms and bottles).
